WestJet talks Twitter

It’s no secret the other week that WestJet jumped into the Social Media game officially re-activating it’s Twitter account. The first to go off was a Twitter only promo code used in conjunction with a contest offering followers a FREE flight from anywhere in Canada WestJet flies from, to anywhere in Canada where they fly.

Last week I managed to stumble across a few clips that aired on Saskatoon’s News Talk 650 – CKOM radio station. I’ve added them in for your listen below.

I find it interesting that Mr. Bartrem indicates they took a unique approach using traditional media to get the new media noticed. A method that more companies will most likely exploit. In just over two weeks WestJet has more then doubled it’s follower account (currently sitting at 4,484). Still a far cry from Southwest Air or JetBlue.

On a separate note, last night JetBlue decided to begin its segregation plan and launched a new Twitter account for specific ‘Cheep’ deals (obviously a play on the word tweet).

I want it shorter and I want it mine

I recently had asked about how to create my own URL shortener on Twitter and was pointed to a great post on outspokenmedia.com with a tutorial. So I grabbed the latest version of the Link Shortcut plugin and went to town. Following along with the tutorial, the plugin was easily installed and configured — with the exception of having an error similar to the following.

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening '/home/XXXXXXX/public_html/wp-content/plugins/link-shortcut/admin/footer.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/XXXXXXX/public_html/wp-content/plugins/link-shortcut/admin/options.inc.php on line 53

I was trying to figure out what the issue might be and simply determined the file was missing. So I dug through the archive of versions of the plugin, only to see it never existed. I got impatient and simply created a blank file and saved it as footer.inc.php and uploaded it to the requested directory. Guess what? It worked! So I’m hopefully that when I Tweet this URL it’ll be nice and short and everything will work. Guess there’s only one way to find out!

SEO Challenge

This idea just popped in my head and I’m sure that something like this has been done before, but I want to see what can really be done, and have some learning in the process for myself and for readers. I’ve been watching, though not actively doing, the 31 Days to Building a Better Blog challenge and realized I had done a lot of the steps already. That said, I do have a page I think I could rank quite well for on this site. I’m talking first page results here people.

Task: Get the page at http://www.360aday.com/2009/04/13/calgary-radio-stations/ to rank for the search keywords of calgary radio stations and display first page results in Google. Now the task sounds like it may be a tall one, but I’m hoping it can happen with your help.

Solution: I’ve just started the #SEOChallenge on Twitter to help get the ball rolling (I hope) and am open to all sorts of suggestions to help me out. So to all you “SEO Experts” out there please leave a comment or Tweet me with some ideas and input. I’m confident with your help I can get this done.

Finally I’m quote worthy

It’s true what you read in the title. Today I was quoted in a blog post about Annoying Habits in Social Media thanks to @kristy. Last night she sent out a quick Tweet asking for input so I replied. It’s amazing how following a few interesting people begins to open horizons to other things being possible. Of course, there are other things I still need to complete for others. Then of course there’s all my stuff still too.

Alas, today is a better day as I was finally quoted. Thanks Kristy and anytime you need more, just ask! ;)

The Money’s in the Shoe

A few years ago I stumbled upon an interesting image of a dude holding a Google AdSense payout cheque over $120,000 USD. Just Google it and I’m sure you’ll find it. Fast forward to recent history and we’ll look at the fact I hopped on board this Twitter thing. That’s when I managed to come across his site again. ShoeMoney.com has been a regular site in my daily repetoir now…to the extent I even subscribed to his email list and ‘tweeted’ a bit with him on Twitter. It was actually thanks to a recent tweet that I found out about a webinar that he was putting on in conjunction with BigMarketingOnline.com and didn’t hesitate to signup for it and boy am I glad I did.
