SEO Challenge

This idea just popped in my head and I’m sure that something like this has been done before, but I want to see what can really be done, and have some learning in the process for myself and for readers. I’ve been watching, though not actively doing, the 31 Days to Building a Better Blog challenge and realized I had done a lot of the steps already. That said, I do have a page I think I could rank quite well for on this site. I’m talking first page results here people.

Task: Get the page at http://www.360aday.com/2009/04/13/calgary-radio-stations/ to rank for the search keywords of calgary radio stations and display first page results in Google. Now the task sounds like it may be a tall one, but I’m hoping it can happen with your help.

Solution: I’ve just started the #SEOChallenge on Twitter to help get the ball rolling (I hope) and am open to all sorts of suggestions to help me out. So to all you “SEO Experts” out there please leave a comment or Tweet me with some ideas and input. I’m confident with your help I can get this done.

Finally I’m quote worthy

It’s true what you read in the title. Today I was quoted in a blog post about Annoying Habits in Social Media thanks to @kristy. Last night she sent out a quick Tweet asking for input so I replied. It’s amazing how following a few interesting people begins to open horizons to other things being possible. Of course, there are other things I still need to complete for others. Then of course there’s all my stuff still too.

Alas, today is a better day as I was finally quoted. Thanks Kristy and anytime you need more, just ask! ;)

That’s crappy!

SO today I had the chance to be in the men’s washroom to take care of some business. This is a good thing, as I’m male and not permitted in the women’s bathroom…but that’s a different story not yet told. Anyways, as I was in there two other guys came in to do their business. One guy left rather quickly. The second however is a different story. He arrived shortly after the first guy and his BlackBerry was busy vibrating. Thank goodness he didn’t answer because whoever was on the other end would NOT have wanted to hear what happened after.

After a few minutes his phone rang again (yes, I was in there quite a while after those awesome Sweet Potato Fries from White Spot) but this time he answered it. I’m hoping it was his wife, but at the same time hoping it wasn’t. There was some low volume talking, but hey buddy…it echoes in a concrete room. So his quiet chat turned much louder. Followed up by “hello, hello, HELLO?!” A quick flush, rinse and out the door.

Now here’s my issue. There is very little signal in the washroom, I know ’cause I’ve looked on my phone. The scary part is that it’s better then in some parts of the building. The second though is that the bathroom, toilet, WC, lav or whatever you want to call it, is no place to attempt to have a private conversation. Seriously. It’s pretty crappy to think of what may have happened to his beloved BlackBerry. Or even the person on the other end of the phone. Thinking about it now I should’ve just let out a big groan and moan in pain while he was on…at least I would’ve had some enjoyment and be a part of his conversation he was having.

So honestly, my question to you is what do you perceive as proper toilet etiquette? Especially when it comes to phone calls. Do you answer them or not? Voicemail is there for a reason and coupled with caller ID is probably all you need. Just my 2¢ for the day.

A change of focus?

Today found me looking around at different themes to use for 360aday.com and I still have yet to find one that I’m sold on. I’ve actually been developing custom themes for a number of different sites that I’ve been working on and am enjoying using WordPress as a CMS. So I figured today that I’ll also begin reviewing different plugins that I use across different sites. I know that it won’t be an amazing review site, however I’m doing this for me. It’s a place to sit with a list of popular WordPress plugins that I use and have tried. That way I’ll know to either keep using them or avoid them and hopefully I won’t need to search as much for various different WordPress plugins as well. I guess the first step to get this done is to actually upgrade this from WordPress 2.6.1 to WordPress 2.7! It should be interesting to see if/what I lose in the migration. I don’t bother to back things up like I should…only for blogs that matter!

Wish me luck!

It was there I swear

I had something to actually write about but now I can’t remember why it was. I’m just going to ramble on (not to be confused with that song) on my iPhone while my iBook finishes its update. It’s been getting slower but it is over 4 years old. It’s definitely made me my money back and them some…hen even the Quad-core Power Mac has as well. I guess that means I should probably shop Apple for something new?! Suggestions are always welcomed…if anyone actually reads this anymore.
