Cake for free!

So today started out to be a good day. I went to yet another Starbucks on the way to the office today, and needed some food as well. I ordered my non-fat, no whip mocha and added a slice of carrot cake to the order as well. Wouldn’t you know it, the employee damaged the cake. There was nothing wrong with it, but the way she grabbed it with the tongs, squished the corner so she couldn’t sell it…it was mine for FREE! It was a great way to start the day I suppose. Now how am I going to top FREE cake in the morning?

It’s still fairly early in the day, so I know there’s plenty of opportunity. I also had something actually important to write about, and was thinking about it on the way into the office. Of course, I forgot what I was going to write about. It was almost a story idea I think. I guess that means that the creative juices are beginning to flow, and that story is getting closer to reality.

One thing that I have been thinking about writing on lately is Google AdSense. There’s ways you can get stuff for FREE from them as well, I’m just not sure how it works. I’ve been thinking that I need to focus on keywords in my posts to get some better content related ads to display across 360aday.com, but I just haven’t determined what these words should be. Apparently it’s still seeing a lot of information from previous posts (I don’t want to say it, but the initials are W.L.). It’s understandable since that was the focus of the site for a while. Now if only I could get something better.

I’d love to see some more amazing travel deals on the site, or promotions for travel to Australia on QANTAS. I really want to go there this fall, and would love to fly on QANTAS. Hopefully WestJet will strike up some interline deal so that I can fly for cheap! I’ve also given consideration to heading back to Munich again for Oktoberfest! I was there last year, and what an amazingly fun time that was. So much beer. So many people. So much music. It really was an enjoyable time — for the most part.

So, I know it’s a short, rambling post about nothing at all (again) but you should also fill in the poll to the left. I’m sure that soon I’ll begin writing some real content. Perhaps regarding websites that I’m working on — of which there are a few. I’ll be working code for a new Blue Rock Landscaping website, hopefully a new site for Creative Soup Kitchen, or CSK for short. SPRY is also working on a deal with NECCS to secure their website, and there’s also a new site for a book that’s due to come out soon called “Happy in Rush-Hour— that’s written by a friend of mine, Leanne.

Oh yeah Terri, “Just so you know” you owe me for half of that speeding ticket! It’s your fault I was going so fast…actually, I think it’s probably Bryanne’s fault since it was her gathering. And Lyndsay, thanks for the “Ode to Marshall” — yours will show up soon here no doubt.

Am I actually supposed to work?

WOW! Two posts in one day so far?! Of course, if my boss happens to check the times on the posts I’m most likely screwed…good thing that he’s a good guy! I just spent a few minutes making minor tweaks to the site. I added some affiliate links on the sidebar – currently located on the left. Links for B & B Electronics, Cheap Caribbean Vacations, and of course WestJet were added. If you happen to purchase anything through one of these links, a portion of the proceeds go to help end world poverty by 2025 through The Millennium Project.

I’m also hoping to tweak my Google Adsense content over the next few days, into weeks, then into months and hopefully years even. I’ve been doing some searching about ways to optimize your site posts and get Google to show more relevant content to your site. So, I’m not going to go backwards and edit a number of posts, we’ll just continue forward and implement them. Of course, the most important thing to generate site revenue would be that of these little mysterious people we call site visitors or guests.

I prefer guests to my site. Of course, this may be a part of the WestJet way of thinking, but I’d like to think that someone feels welcomed when they sit down at my site and begin to read. I don’t want a bunch of clutter, or other pointless things floating around…though I guess that’s why they’re here in the first place. My pointless thoughts! I used to have a blog by that name, but it got old, hijacked and spammed to death. So now I sit here, simply writing and hoping that the mysterious little guests will show up. And somehow, some way the little mysterious Google AdSense bot will hit my page regularly, and update the AdSense content accordingly and that people will click on the ads and generate some revenue so that it can be donated to The Millennium Project.

As a bit of a side note, I cannot tell you to click on the AdSense ads, so I’m not telling you or asking you to do so. If you see something that you’re genuinely interested in, then go for it! I do the same on other peoples sites — but never my own!

For some reason I really want to write today. I’m not sure about what, but I think that I need to come up with some sort of story. A subject. A character. Anything that will allow me to focus my energy and thoughts on that story instead of simple ramblings. Ideas? Suggestions? Of course you have them, so please just leave them in a comment. I look at all comments, and am very open to suggestions…you just have to leave them.

Shopping spree!

OK, I guess it’s not really a shopping spree, but I did do some quick shopping. I just bought three of the most useless things in the world, just so the two iBooks in my house would look even cooler then they already do. Yes, we’re a crazy Mac house! It’s been almost 3 years now since I had my first sip of Kool-Aid and I’ve never looked back. It’s been about 8 months since I powered down the last Windows PC in the house, and it’s been sitting in the corner collecting dust ever since. In fact, I’ll probably turn it into a Linux based server at some point…just not sure when I’ll have that time, plus the time to maintain it. At least that amount of time will be far less then maintaining a Windows Server.

It’s actually quite early in the morning for me to be posting, but like in my last post, I’ll post whenever I want to. I noticed something this morning when my friend from canadianlyndsay.com mentioned to me that I did miss a day. Well, a little investigation showed me that my post times were off, but only by 5 hours. So, don’t go for my posts based on the times that are displayed…until I get it fixed. Of course, I have no clue when that will be.

One other thing that I noticed is that Microsoft Word for Windows is lacking something that they’ve built into the Mac version. In the Mac version, the word count is showing at the bottom in the status bar — in the Windows version, it’s completely missing. I might be able to enable it through some setting somewhere, but just not sure where. Again though, it’s an additional setting I’d have to enable. At least it would seem that Microsoft puts some thought into the UI for Mac users — probably because they require it!

Starbucks LogoAs well, I’ve got to note that the triple Grande, non-fat, no whip mocha’s that I’ve been drinking lately from Starbucks sure are starting to pay off. Well, if I was buying their stock it probably would. I keep spending a lot of money on them. They average about $5, and going through 1 or 2 of them a day sure adds up. Guess I might just give it up for a while, or further limit myself to the quantity per week. Just budget myself a little more closely…or figure out how to become rich and not worry about the money aspect.

Almost no writing…

Well, it’s almost too late to be writing for today, but I guess it still works. Still haven’t missed a day. Though I did begin to think about that since this coming weekend I’ll be in Lake Louise and there’s definitely no guarantee that I’ll be anywhere near an internet connection – even if I was, it’s a fun, romantic getaway so why would I want to? So, before I break the agreement to write at least 360 words a day, let’s go with the following. I agree to write at least 360 words a day provided I have access to an Internet connection and am able to access the website. If I’m not I can add that number of words to the next day, or next post for as many days as I miss. The other, more likely and preferred option is to still write that 360 words a day minimum, but just write it on a piece of paper or two or three, and simply type it into the page upon my return…since I can edit the post date after all.

I was thinking of writing earlier on today when I checked out the blog at canadianlyndsay.com and realized that Lyndsay had already posted, and that it was early in the day. I thought about typing it up right then, but thought that I’d have more to write if I wrote closer to the end of the day. Nope. I should’ve written then anyways, even if I would’ve had more to write at the end of the day. I should always write when I get the chance.

Well, I do have something more to write now. I guess it relates slightly to yesterdays post about trying to figure out what to make. I figure if I start posting meal ideas on here, then at least I’ll have a resource to go back and look at right? Of course I will. So, tonight we barbequed some salmon and some asparagus while making some scalloped potatoes. The potatoes could’ve gone in a little longer, and well, the asparagus could’ve gone for a lot less time on the grill. Essentially to note for the future, to barbeque asparagus, it takes very little time. It wasn’t really burned, but more so of a Cajun style! ;)

One of the suggestions for food that came up while making dinner tonight was lasagna. I make a kick ass lasagna thanks to a recipe that my mother gave me – that I think she stole from the neighbor. She does give the neighbor credit though in the title of the lasagna recipe.

Anyway, that’s going to be it for today. Sorry for yet another pointless post. The purpose is to get me writing, and this I am accomplishing. Of note, things I need to write about still and do to the site are affiliate links. In order to help drive revenue to assist with The Millennium Project, I’m going to add in a bunch of affiliate links so that if you buy things, you can purchase them through the link, and the site will gain a small commission that can go towards ending world poverty. Remember that 50% of the revenue generated by this site will go towards the project. I guess, in all reality it should be 50% of the profit, but we’ll determine that when it comes about…it’ll probably be closer to 100% of the profit, since in the grand scheme of things I’m doing pretty good.

Thanks for reading (if you did) and have a great night. I hope to hear from you, so please, feel free to leave some comments (it’s very easy to do – if Terri can do it, so can you) and of course pass this along to your friends. If you have suggestions on things to do to the site, then let me know as well. G’night!

What to eat?

“Time to eat! Great, now what will I actually eat?” This is what I say to myself almost every single day. It’s not so bad if it’s just me that I’m cooking for, but when others are involved, now I really need to ensure that I make something edible. Don’t get me wrong – I love to cook, and I do it well. It’s just a matter of getting creative enough to come up with ideas on what to eat.

So, there I was tonight, opening the fridge, the pantry, the deep freeze, the freezer, and finally, it hit me! “How about perogies” I asked thinking it might be a safe bet. Well, turns out it was. Then I thought about all the different ways to do perogies. I was planning on some fried onion and bacon, but I’m lazy and just typically boil the perogies…not tonight. They’re getting pan fried as well. Truth be told, that’s how I like them, but I’m usually too lazy to actually do the onions and bacon. Then there’s thought of sour cream. If you use it at all, do you dip it or spread it all over the top. I guess it could be the same for ketchup, but not on perogies please.

So, really the question isn’t so much how to make it, but still, what to make. Everyday, it’s the same thing. Why? Life should be easy. Things like eating shouldn’t take a lot of thought. Kind of like breathing…it should just be something natural that happens. So why isn’t it? Well, my thoughts are that we’re so caught up today on doing everything so last minute and so quickly. I remember growing up that my mom always had meals figured out, and they were always fairly complete from all the food groups.

Of course, food and diet have completely changed from 20 years ago. It was always 3 meals a day, and maybe a snack – if you were lucky. Now they’re saying five to six smaller meals a day, and you’ll get your metabolism going and loose or maintain the weight that you’re at. Crazy.

On a completely unrelated side note, did you know that for every 35 pounds a guy looses, his dick grows about 1 inch?! At least, according to the latest Cosmo issue it will.
